Trixie and Roscoe, A Dog Story
Two neighbors, Bob and Dennis, were proud dog owners and they liked to brag to each other about their pets. When Dennis enrolled his little Roscoe in an obedience school, Bob, not about to let Dennis's Roscoe get ahead of his little Trixie, quickly followed. They faithfully took their little darlings to every session.
Finally, the fateful day of graduation came.
Dennis stepped up to put his little Roscoe through the test. He commanded, "Sit." Roscoe obediently sat. Dennis commanded, "Heeled," and Roscoe heeled. When Dennis commanded, "Stay," Roscoe patiently stayed. Then Dennis commanded, "Come," and Roscoe eagerly came to him. Roscoe was awarded a blue ribbon.
Now Bob stepped up with little Trixie. Bob commanded, "Sit," but trixie lay down. Regardless of what Bob said or did, Trixie ignored him. Then Bob commanded, "Heel," but Trixie then obliged by sitting down. Bob again commanded Trixie to heel, but Trixie simply ignored him. When Bob commanded, "Stay," Trixie ran and jumped up on him. Then Bob commanded "Come" and Trixie ignored him and lay down. With this, Bob and Trixie retreated in shame to the back row and sat down.
After all had left the graduation, the obedience school trainer was very apologetic and said, "I don't know where I failed with Trixie. To retrieve my honor as a trainer, I will give Trixie more schooling free of charge so we can make it right."
As Dennis and Bob left the graduation, Dennis tried consoling Bob. "I am sorry Trixie didn't work out. Maybe it was just a bad day for him."
Bob said, "On the contrary, I feel pretty good about it. Your Roscoe got a blue ribbon, but my Trixie got a scholarship."
